This talk will be on existential psychotherapy and group psychotherapy, with specific emphasis on Yalom’s new teaching novel, The Schopenhauer Cure. The therapist/client relationship from an existential therapy perspective; the practice of existentially oriented psychotherapy using recent clinical cases; the impact of death awareness on the conduct of life; the technique of the group therapist; the selection and preparation of group patients; the relevance of philosophy for therapy; and the case for and against clinical philosophy will be discussed by Dr. Yalom. Dr. Yalom will autograph books in the Arena Lobby following his talk.

PhD Irvin Yalom Related lectures and products: 18Dr. Yalom is an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine. His main areas of interest are group psychotherapy and existentially oriented inter-personal individual treatment. In recent years, he has taught the technique of psychotherapy via storytelling, employing short tales and novels.
Dr. Yalom received the American Group Psychotherapy Association’s (AGPA) first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award on March 6, 2017 in New York City, during the 75th annual conference.
