Byron Katie – Introduction to the Work
Salepage : Byron Katie – Introduction to the Work
A Simple Yet Effective Practice
When we do The Work of Byron Katie, we not only remain alert to our stressful thoughts—the ones that cause all of the anger, sadness, and frustration in our world—but we also question them, and the thoughts lose their power over us as a result. Great spiritual texts explain what it means to be free. The how is the work. It teaches you how to recognize and challenge any thought that would keep you from having that freedom.
How to Carry Out the Task
The Procedure
Every step of The Work is a form of meditation. To begin, settle into stillness and observe what comes to mind. Allow The Work to work on you now.
Notice
What or who irritates, angers, or saddens you? Why? Consider a specific situation.
Painful emotions are the temple bells that ring to remind you that “It’s time to do The Work.”
Write
Use short, simple sentences to record your stressful thoughts on a Worksheet.
When thoughts are stopped on paper, they remain stable, and inquiry can be easily applied.
Question
Isolate and question one thought; allow genuine answers to emerge.
A question is a mental invitation to be shown what is true, beyond what we think we know.
Flip It Around
Find the thought’s polar opposites. Are they as true as, or even more so than, the original thought?
Instead of being stuck in a limited reality, the turnarounds allow consciousness to expand.
The Nine-Day Period
Workplace Education
The School of You is the School of The Work. Every day, at every session, Byron Katie is there to guide you into the deep places of The Work.
This is a School of stillness, presence, and contemplation on the thoughts that have limited and held you back in your relationships and at work. It is an opportunity to learn what causes all suffering and how to put an end to it. Most participants consider these nine days to be the most important of their lives.
Come along with Byron Katie.

An Inquiry Invitation
Hello and welcome to The Work.
I discovered that when I believed my thoughts, I suffered, but when I didn’t, I didn’t, and that this is true for all humans. That’s all there is to it. I discovered that suffering is entirely optional. I discovered a joy within myself that has never left me, not even for a single moment. That joy is always present in everyone. And I challenge you not to believe me. I invite you to put it to the test.
