Dr. Willis Harman delivered a four-hour session at the First International Conference on Consciousness and Addiction (President of the Institute of Noetic Sciences). “Where the world fails to treat addicts is by providing a 200-level answer for a 600-level experience. A 600-level energy problem necessitates a 600-level energy solution.” A youthful Dr. Hawkins explains, with chalk in hand, that a person is hooked to the re-experience of a certain high-energy field. He guides us through the stages of AA and his own personal drinking experience. He demonstrates that drugs do provide a “high,” but their true power is to eliminate the impediments to this greater energy field that is always there inside us. He guides us through the many energy levels from death to happiness using the now-familiar Map of Consciousness. “Experiencing this energy field (Bliss) is the most addicting of all human experiences,” he says. In the film “Lost Horizon,” Dr. Hawkins shows how Shangri-La is similar to feeling pleasure. Due to numerous events, the main character leaves Shangri-La only to discover that his bliss experience is the only one he genuinely craves and that he will give up everything to “go back to Shangri-La.” Dr. Hawkins gives a context in which to comprehend the entire addiction process, which is both powerful and intimate.
