Grappling is a sport in hand-to-hand combat that involves grasping or grabbing the opponent. [1] Grappling, like wrestling, is employed at close range to obtain a physical advantage over an opponent, such as forcing a position, or to injure the opponent. Grappling refers to methods employed in a variety of disciplines, styles, and martial arts that are practiced as combat sports as well as for self-defense. Takedowns and ground control are common in grappling matches, which can terminate when a participant concedes defeat, sometimes known as a submit or tap out. [2]
Grappling does not usually entail striking or the use of weapons. However, certain fighting styles or martial arts, particularly those noted for their grappling skills, teach strategies that incorporate blows and weapons, either alongside or in addition to grappling. [3]
