Joel Peterson has been teaching real estate, entrepreneurship, and leadership courses at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business since 1992. Peterson’s current course focus is on successful management and leadership of developing enterprises. His overarching interest, on the other hand, is in students and the significant decisions they will make in the economic world and in their personal life.
Joel is the Chairman of the Board of Overseers at Stanford University, as well as the Chairman of the Board at JetBlue Airways. Over the past 45 years, he has served on more than three dozen boards, including The Dallas Market Center, Texas Commerce Bank (Dallas), and Asurion. He is presently a director of Franklin Covey and Packsize.
Joel is also the Founding Partner and Chairman of Peterson Partners, a Salt Lake City-based investment management business with $1 billion under management. Through 13 funds, Peterson Partners has invested in over 200 companies across four asset classes: growth-oriented private equity, venture capital, real estate, and search funds.
Joel was the Chief Executive Officer of Trammell Crow Company, the world’s largest private commercial real estate development firm, prior to attending Stanford Business School and founding Peterson Partners. Joel obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School and gained his Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University, where he was valedictorian and student body president.
Joel received the GSB’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2005 and the Robert K. Jaedicke Silver Apple Award in 2016.
