Doug is incredible. Doug is best known for his audio program Sleight of Mouth. The First Half of the “Belief Craft” Seminar, “Knowledge Engineering,” Reveals HOW PEOPLE TICK. Modeling subjective excellence is arguably the true core of NLP methodology. Nonetheless, there aren’t many other useful home-study courses that explicitly teach how to model subjectivity. Why is this the case? Nonetheless, Jonathan came to NLP from a previous career in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 1997, and developed a methodology that combines other methods of tracking human decision systems from the AI community with NLP. As a result, this is the only short and sweet home-study course that teaches modeling subjectivity, let alone working with belief systems in real-time. Other NLP trainers are gradually accepting this model as a “better way” of teaching explicit/analytical modeling. Working with the Knowledge Engineering system will teach you the following core skills:
Eliciting Strategies: KE practitioners instantly recognize decision sequences, whether well-formed or not, whether clean or cyclical and never-ending. And this allows you to easily guide someone through their plan – or develop more optimum ones for them.
Recognizing Patterns: Over time, you’ll observe why individuals make the same mistakes over and over again; it typically comes down to poorly formed belief systems. And once your ears are finely tuned, these kinds of patterns emerge almost automatically…
Hearing Assumptions: Most individuals make bad estimates about the hidden intentions of others. Hidden intentions cannot be kept hidden from well-trained KE practitioners for long. When KE is done correctly, hidden intentions appear as “missing pieces” of an elicited belief system that is already driving behavior.
Tracking Reasoning: As you begin to more accurately track how people process information and in what order their beliefs force them to consider choices, you will literally be tracking their minds and walking through their beliefs. This is critical for modeling proficiency. And extremely beneficial to those who require assistance in making decisions.
Optimizing Expertise: Most experts gained their expertise gradually over time. As a result, their logic may be highly accurate, but it is rarely optimal for teaching what they know to others. KE practitioners are capable of streamlining ANY aspect of decision systems and/or human knowledge.

Yes, “Sleight of Mouth” teaches how to effectively change people’s minds, but there’s an even more important lesson here… The most crucial lesson to take away from Doug’s “Sleight of Mouth” CDs is the distinction between PROCESS… and CONTENT. When individuals argue over something, there is almost always a dispute over something particular, some CONTENT. Working at the process level takes folks RIGHT PAST their CONSCIOUS ATTENTION and into their UNCONSCIOUS MINDS. All of the Sleight-of-Mouth ‘patterns’ have one thing in common: they operate on a procedural level. That way, you’ll always be one step ahead of everyone else. While others are disputing about the color of the tablecloths, you may be altering his/her mind unknowingly by gradually shifting your body physiology from a stiff to a more flexible stance. That is an example of nonverbal procedure… below… verbal content. The majority of individuals are unconcerned with the usage of process terminology (or behavior). They haven’t been taught to listen, observe, or feel for it. This provides you an idea of the strength and utility of Sleight of Mouth alone. How Belief Craft Results in Exponential Results…
The following is a coaching narrative about a coach and his client, a jazz musician and music instructor. When they initially started working together, the musician was teaching music at a high school three days a week and teaching piano at a music studio for far less than he earned. He was also attempting to complete his own music CD. During their collaboration, the musician created his own studio where he worked for himself. As his business grew, he became less reliant on working for others and instead employed additional music teachers to work for him. He also entered his CD into a contest sponsored by a New York City jazz radio station and was one of eight finalists. This is a copy of one of several conversations they had on the same topic: after teaching long hours throughout the day, he often felt he didn’t have the stamina to work on writing the remainder of the pieces for his CD. The conversation went something like this: The Knowledge Engineering notations have a blue backdrop, and the Sleight of Mouth remarks have a yellow background.
How a Jazz Musician Rediscovered the Joy of Composing in an Instant
“I just can’t get myself inspired after such a day,” the musician explained.
“Oh right, what’s in your way?” the coach inquired.
“I’m too weary, and I write better when I’m not exhausted.” In KE words, what he was saying was that IF I’m fresh, I compose well, and IF I’m not fresh, I don’t. The coach followed up.
“And you don’t sleep well.”
“I don’t get tapped out after teaching all day.” (If I teach all day, I am exhausted at night.)
“Do you have evenings when you can be inspired?” The trainer started hunting for counter-examples.
“Occasionally, but not after instructing,” the musician said.
“But you’ve told me you went out and had fun after teaching all day, isn’t that right?”
“Well, that’s different.”
“How is it different?”
“When I have to compose, it seems like work when I’m exhausted, but when I go out, I can do anything I want.” The musician eventually gave the coach the key belief the coach wanted to work with: IF I AM TIRED, THEN COMPOSING IS WORK), so the coach decided to hit him with a “sleight of mouth” pattern aimed at the musician’s [world model] and [hierarchy of criteria], meaning what he believes to be true and what he values.
“So you don’t genuinely enjoy composing, is that it?”
“However, I do. No, it isn’t like that.” The musician confirmed his principles.
The coach questioned his criteria once more. This is referred to as ‘teasing his resources to the surface.’ “But you stated that when you go out, you may do anything you want, but composing is like labor.” You stated that it was something you needed to accomplish. Is that correct? I mean, if it was something you really liked doing, you’d have just as much energy as when you went out and play, right?”
“Well.” This silenced the Musician. When he discovered that working on his composition was genuinely something he liked, rather than just another job assignment, he began to see how he might feel quite differently about this experience. In fact, it became something he grew to enjoy, especially after a long day.

Why Belief Craft is so powerful: If individuals can learn to listen well enough to follow broader belief systems, you can then employ Sleight of Mouth abilities to wire fully around a problem belief without directly assaulting it. So, while editing, we had to use noise reduction here and amplification there to ensure that you could hear everyone throughout. Doug and Jonathan are easily heard throughout, but in order to hear all of the Q&A/student discussions, we had to do some audio magic, which results in imperfect sound at times. If you can tolerate varying audio quality (as well as the normal ambient sounds of being “in the room with us”) as long as you can clearly hear the important content, you’ll be very pleased with your purchase. Finally, if you prefer your audio courses to be Very Serious, or worse, never use controversial language, you should NOT order this. Jonathan and Doug are firm believers in making seminar settings FUN and casual in order to maximize the learning experience. Furthermore, we made NO attempt to censor any of the students present at the course, as doing so would have jeopardized the ‘continuity’ of the thread of discussions that arose throughout the recordings.
